Split at Blank Pages

Split a scanned batch into separate documents wherever a blank separator sheet appears, and remove the separators.

Slip a blank sheet between documents when you scan a batch, and this tool splits the batch there. Every page is measured for ink: empty pages in digital PDFs are recognised instantly, scanned pages by their actual ink coverage, with scanner noise, edge shadows, punch holes and page margins ignored so a blank sheet still reads as blank.

Before splitting you can see every page's score, drag the threshold to re-classify pages live, and check why a page was or wasn't counted as blank. Duplex scans are handled too: the blank back of a single-sided page isn't mistaken for a separator. You can mark pages and insert or remove splits by hand, then download each document or a ZIP with a split log.

Simple workflow

How it works

  1. 1

    Add a scanned batch

Add one or more PDFs with blank sheets between the documents.

  2. 2

    Detect & review

Check which pages count as blank, tune the threshold, and fix any page by hand.

  3. 3

    Split

Download each document without its separator pages, or a ZIP with a split log.

Frequently asked questions

A blank sheet isn't being detected - what should I change?

Scanner shadows, dust and punch holes add a little "ink" to a blank sheet. Keep "Ignore noise specks" and "Ignore page margins" on, widen the margin if the shadow is wide, or drag the threshold line in the sensitivity strip just above the blank pages.

My batch was scanned two-sided - won't every blank back split it?

Turn on Duplex handling. The blank back of a single-sided page is then recognised as a duplex back and never splits a document; you can also remove those backs from the output.

What if a document contains an intentionally blank page?

Use "Split only when N blanks appear in a row" and separate documents with two blank sheets, or mark that page as content in the page view.
