PDF Spread Splitter

Split two-page spreads - scanned book openings, printer spreads, landscape layouts - into single pages in the right reading order.

Each page is checked for being a two-page spread, and scanned spreads get their gutter shadow located so the cut lands in the fold rather than the geometric middle. In the page view you can drag any split line, skip pages, and see exactly what each half will contain before anything is created. Right-to-left books, standalone covers and books that open on a lone right-hand page are all supported.

Digital pages stay vector: text remains sharp and selectable, and the text on the far side of each cut is removed so no page secretly carries its neighbour's words. For scans, optional cleanup straightens each half, lightens the gutter shadow and trims black scanner borders. Bookmarks are carried over to the right halves.

Simple workflow

How it works

Add scanned books, printer spreads or landscape PDFs.

  2. 2

    Detect & adjust

Detect spreads, then drag split lines or skip pages in the page view.

Split every spread into single pages in reading order and download the result.

Frequently asked questions

How does it decide which pages are spreads?

A page counts as a spread when it is at least 1.3 times as wide as it is tall (you can change the threshold). On scans it also looks for the dark shadow of the book's fold near the middle. Pages it can't be sure about are marked "Uncertain" so you can check them, and portrait pages such as covers are left whole.

Will the text in my PDF still be selectable?

Yes for digital pages - each half keeps its text and vector artwork, and the text from the other side of the cut is removed. Scanned pages stay images; if you turn on cleanup (deskew, gutter shadow, border crop) those halves are re-rendered as cleaned images, and cleanup is skipped on scans that have a text layer unless you turn off "Preserve text layer".

What if a heading or picture runs across the fold?

The page view warns you before splitting. Add some overlap at the cut so the content appears on both halves, or drag the split line to a better position for that page.
